Every kindergarten teacher must have a teacher’s assistant. I worked as a teacher’s assistant at Central Public school with another teachers assistant and really enjoyed it. A typical day may involve working one-on-one with students, getting together lesson materials and monitoring students, as well as doing other tasks the head teacher needs help with. I worked one-on-one and monitored the kids quite a bit but I also helped with cutting, gluing, setting supplies out and setting up the classroom and display boards. They also make sure projects are sent home, Teacher assistants may also clean and go to staff meetings. Basically they are there to help make the head teacher’s job easier.

If someone was considering becoming a teacher’s assistant they should be good with kids and enjoy working with individuals. Teacher’s assistants work one-on-one with individuals quite a bit so if someone was considering becoming a teacher’s assistant they should be comfortable working with one student at a time as well as with small groups and  the class as a whole. They should also enjoy cutting and gluing considering teachers assistants do a lot of that. If someone wanted to become a teacher’s assistant they should be a good listener and be aware of their student’s emotions and individual needs. It is also very important for a teacher’s assistant to be flexible as plans are always changing.

Becoming a teacher’s assistant is not that hard. In some cases you will need certification but there are many times were having a high school diploma is all you need. It also helps if you have had previous experience working with kids. You can also take teacher aid or assistant programs. You can also get all the requirements needed for being a fully certified teacher but it is not necessary.

There is a large range of jobs available with just a high school diploma. With a high school diploma you can do anything from being first-line supervisors of police and detectives who make around $39.16 an hour, to elevator installers and repairers who make around $36.51 an hour. There are many other jobs available that only require a high school diploma.
