Communication Exercise

Prep

​

  • set out the chairs

  • set up the things needed for working with the kids one on one

  • Cut out pictures and words needed for lessons

  • glue pages into the kids scrap books

  • hide cards around the class for the kids to find later

  • put pages in the kid sharing and home reading books

  • clear the drying rack

  • Put pages in planar bags to go home

  • Put library books in the appropriate bin

  • check the kids back packs for sharing books, home reading books, and planar bags

 

Working one-one-one or with small groups

  • Provide an “out let” for kids who just need someone to talk to

  • work with a student to improve skills in areas they are struggling with

  • Help the kids improve their fine motor skills such as cutting squeezing and handling a pencil

  • Help the individual to slow down their speech and practice listening for individual sounds

  • Teach new words

  • teach the kids literacy skills such as rhyming

  • Reaffirm concepts the kids are already learning in class

  • Get to really know the kids and do activates that are geared specifically to their learning style

  • Work with small groups on activities that promote sharing and taking turns

  • Help the kids learn ways to problem solve

 

Monitoring

​

  • Make sure that the students are behaving appropriately

  • Help the kids open their container and packages at lunch

  • Help kids get their outdoor cloths on and off

  • Answer questions the kids have

  • Get to know the kids while watching over them

  • Check up on the kids and make sure that they are being included and connecting with other kids

  • Help the kids with costumes

  • help the kids go up and down the stairs when they are going around the school

  • Monitor at special events the kids go to such as concerts and dances
